About
Richard Bell Photography is a second-generation wedding and portrait studio in the Charleston, SC metro area. Richard founded the family studio back in the late 1980s, and retired when his son, Nathan, took over in 2004. Having pioneered the digital switch at the turn of the century in South Carolina, our studio has been raising the bar for Charleston wedding photographers and portrait artists. We are a team here, which allows us to work in a collaborative, creative environment which is constantly challenging us to grow and improve the state of our art. Our extensive portfolio is available for you to explore, as well as biographies of our individual artists. Our blog is regularly updated with studio news and recent work. We are also avid Facebookers. Look us up!

Frequently Asked Questions for Photography
Do you offer special techniques such as hand-coloring or toning?
We shoot all of our images in color, however, any image may be converted to black and white or sepia. I have a great deal of experience in doing quality black and white conversions to make the pictures like like they were originally taken on black and white film. Our studio is an expert at digital retouching, and is currently building a striking portfolio of digital special effects.
Do you have experience shooting in various lighting situations?
We have experience in all lighting situations from harsh to soft natural light, candlelight, overcast, twilight, etc
Is your media preference film or digital?
Since our start in digital back in 2000, there have been great advances in digital imaging. Since May 2002 we have been film free for all our photography, and we've never have been more excited. Substantial progress is being made everyday making digital the format of choice for some of the most advanced, respected and creative wedding photographers worldwide.
All prints for albums and reorders are printed using the latest imaging technology on professional high resolution photographic paper, which has truly remarkable color fidelity, and is archival, and fade-proof for over 70 years.
Add that to the flexibility, and creative potential afforded to us by digital, and the answer is no, digital is not as good as film--it's better.
Do you guarantee your presence at the actual event?
When you book your wedding with us, you reserve the photographer of your choice to photograph at your event. We have three lead photographers to choose from, so please check out their bios at: http://www.charlestonwedding.com/#/behind-the-camera/
Do you have a replacement photographer in case you become unavailable on the day of the event?
Of course.
Do you bring back-up equipment to the event in case of malfunction?
Yes, like boy scouts, we like to always be prepared.
Do you charge hourly or full day?
Our wedding packages are flexible enough to accommodate any wedding. We usually charge for the full day because when we design your wedding album, we want to tell your whole story.
Are you available to shoot extra hours? If yes, how much do you charge for extra hours?
We are available to charge hourly for extra hours or special wedding events such as rehearsal and rehearsal dinner coverage.
Do you charge for travel?
Yes and no. It all depends on the package that the couple books with our studio and how far away the destination is.
How soon after the event are the proofs ready for viewing?
Your proofs are available for viewing along with your wedding album pre-design about 3 weeks after the wedding. This way, the first time you see your wedding pictures, you see them in an original design telling the story of your wedding day. Please feel free to browse our online albums: http://www.charlestonwedding.com/#/galleries/
Will images be available for viewing online?
Yes
